Prestonator is 3! Can you believe it?! He still has all his fingers and toes, we haven't lost any of his pieces and packaging is still in pretty good shape. To celebrate all this success we threw a party!
The guest list included the Ellsworth VIPs (Ingles & Pritchards), some school chums (Turners & Ortegas), work friends (Big Jim) and the DVs included Grandma Borella, Grammy & Grandpa Halsted, Uncle Sean, Aunt Sarah, Ethan, Rileigh and Baby Keelie! Too say that our shoe box of a house was "TIGHT for 29 people" is a gross understatement!
To spread out the guests we had 2 inflatables out back. Lucky to have a backyard that backs up to endless space. Perfect for bounce house screaming and inflatable-dino-obstacle-course-thing. The kids seemed to have a great time. We bounced them, fed them dogs, burgers and yummy cake then sent them on their merry way. Hopefully they all crashed from all that spent energy. Too bad we couldn't harness the power of the bounce house...we could have ended the CA energy crisis. Only downfall was the steady breeze and chilly temps we had for the afternoon. Funny that the kids did not seem to notice that the parents were freezing while they ran around sweating.
Preston had a great time so we consider all the work worth it. Did not get him to eat cake but he did love the frosting and of course the m&m's that were part of the decor. We did a Toy Story theme for decorations since Buzz & Woody things seem to be his favorite (this week). Thank goodness Carol and Thanne were here to help with it all, those two could run the world if we needed them too. Reg and Ron handled all heavy lifting. It was a super team effort and so much fun. Karl was sick the whole time so she was operating at a lower speed but that did not stop her from making a 3 layered cake for Pres and pitching in where she could.
The remainder of the weekend we took advantage of family time. Having the SSs in town was terrific. We were able to capitalize on the weekend rental of the inflatables...Sean, Reg & Karl had near as much fun as the short people. Sarah even tackled the dino! After some outside frolicking we journeyed to Bear Country and Mt Rushmore. Good day for both. We all piled into Sean's van for the Bear Country Experience...he made it well worth it. Waited out a bear who seemed to be drawn to the van, so drawn in fact he needed to take a peak in the windows!! Quite the gentle giant as there was no damage to the Van, only some mud smears from his paws and some drool on the window. Scared the heck out of the SoDak Halsteds while the SSs were calm as ever. Rileigh punctuated the event with rock n' roll fingers while stating "Bear Country is Awesome". Carol's last Bear Country visit included a bite to Reg's car, this seems to have topped it. Fair to say she won't visit again for fear of one climbing in the car to greet her. Excellent family time, lots of conversation and delish grub. Thanks for the visit!
Pretty great little stay-cation here in SoDak. Half expected for the alarm to go off this morning and say "we now return to our regularly scheduled program...". We are mostly back to business as usual, Carol in town until Wednesday AM and then no plans until Thanksgiving. Still waiting on word from the Med Board...cross your fingers for good news!
