Summer is trying to take hold of the Black Hills. As I type this I am sitting on the porch in the back yard, it is 830pm and 70 degrees. What a nice and welcome change. A perfect way to come off the high of a great weekend.
Nothing exciting or new to report. We did the usual - swim lessons, bear country, some shopping, bagels, yard work and quality time with the Ingles. The only change is that in our down time we were outdoors.
Preston and I woke up early for Father's Day to grab Regan & Derek (Stacey had to work) some bagels and coffee. The troop then moved outdoors to tackle mowing, planting, kiddie pool, bounce house, BBQ & hanging out in the sun. Loads of pics, as per the norm.
Preston and I can't thank Regan enough for taking care of us. He makes being a dad, husband & friend seem effortless. We would live in squalor and starve if not for his constant upkeep. Not to mention he also ensures that we are smiling, laughing and entertained. Preston and I know how lucky we are, HAPPY FATHER'S DAY REGAN! Any guy can become a father at any time but it takes someone special to be a daddy. Preston is such a cool kid because of the dad you are.
Dad's Borella & Halsted, thanks for all you do and all the tools you have given us. We like to think you guys did a fine job with us ;) Sorry we couldn't celebrate with you. Miss you and love you.
Happy Father's Day to all of you out there, proud of the dads that our friends and brothers have become.
Nothing really to expand on besides that we are all doing well. Looking forward to a few upcoming trips & a wedding. Regan did tackle the garage clean up and has set up a little home gym. He further outfitted it with his Daddy Day money. Wrapping this up I get to go work out...the first smudge on the weekend. Take that Spokane Biggest Losers...Team Halsted is coming for you!

There is no charge for awesomeness.
So this last weekend was supposed to be a work weekend, where we were to clean the garage and mow the lawn. And by "we" I mean Regan. However we received a call on Wed night that would spare him some aches and pains. Who says spontaneity goes out the window when you have kids?! The Dentlers of Northern Spokane had decided to make the trek to SoDak and pay us a visit! Needless to say we were thrilled. We spruced up the house and awaited their arrival on Friday. The weekend had just gone from "ugh" to "Woo Hoo!".
On Friday, Kevin, Liz, and little Owen completed their journey just as We were getting off work. So great to see them all again! Owen is quite the little boy now and it was fun to see him and Pres play around. Of course, Pres still has a lot to learn about sharing but Owen seemed to like to give him things anyway so it all worked out. We grilled up some steaks and had a great time catching up. After soaking the boys in the bath we put them down for the night and forced Kevin and Liz to stay awake and entertain us into the wee hours. Good times!
The next day, Karl shocked everyone by being the first up and ready to go! I'll pause a moment to let that sink in....................She was even up and showered before the kids! Anyhoo, we headed into town to introduce the Dentlers to our Bagel Shop Goodness and, of course, Bear Country!! We turned Regan's car into a clown car and stuffed us all in. Lots of fun. All the animals were a little sedated as the weather was not up to snuff. A thick fog had rolled in and the temp had dropped so they were all hunkered down. We were kinda sad that the Dentlers didn't get to experience BC in all it's glory but a reindeer did step up and give us a close encounter so it wasn't all bad.
After the boys had a nice nap, we went out to dinner and caught the last 10 min at the mall play area before it closed. Guess we prob should have checked the hours. After the kids went down to sleep we tried to act young again and stay up late drinking and talking. The night was well worth the pain of waking up the next day. Really brought back how much we miss having them around.
Today we made a yummy breakfast and chilled at the house. We were sad to see the Dentlers pack up their stuff and prepare to start the long drive home. We loved being able to kick it with them even if was just for a weekend. Fun to see Pres and Owen together and experience Kevin being.....well, Kevin. Our hearts were not too heavy though since we are planning to head to Spokane in a month or so, so we will see them again soon.
So, now the weekend is over but it was a good one. We finished it up watching Kung-Fu Panda, which never gets old, and watching Pres try to make himself look like a boxer after a fight. He was sitting on the foot-rest of our reclining couch trying to get down and Regan was trying to sit up and help him so Pres wouldn't take a header and fall on his face. Only problem is when sit up, the foot-rest drops so Pres fell forward and smacked his face right on the sweet-spot of our coffee table. Left a little cut above his eye and it puffed up a little. Not as much crying as I had expected at least we know our little trooper is a toughy!
Hope all is well in your neck of the world. As usual, be sure to check out the pics. Hope to see or hear from you all soon!

Pres' first Airshow and Track meet.
So, believe it or not but the weather here does get nice from time to time. Last weekend it was sunny and in the 80's and of course, SoDak's signature 'breeze' was in effect. Perfect weather to have an Airshow! As most of you probably know, the airshow is a regular occurrence in Halsted family life. A year not going to the flightline to watch the Air Force's finest in action is a rarity. Even Karl is a veteran of strolling the tarmac but that is more of following Regan around feigning interest as he freaks out about the planes. We figured it was time to introduce Preston to all that is......Airshow.
But before we get to that, first the track meet. South Dakota was holding it's State High School Track and Field finals here in Rapid so we figured we'd check it out even though we knew absolutely no one competing or perhaps even watching for that matter, save a few co-workers maybe. Anyway, it was a chance to relive some old memories and maybe see some good action. We took our bikes downtown, got some bagel goodness, and then rode over to the stadium of a local college where the meet was taking place. For some reason, the organizers took it upon themselves to charge $20 per person to get into the stadium and we were having none of that, especially since the stands were PACKED and again we knew no one. So, we opted for observing from outside the fence from afar. Ended up not being too bad a vantage point as we could see the whole track. Interesting to see the difference between "B" class and "AA" class athletes. Some of the races we watched seemed like they just grabbed whoever was willing to run and threw them on the track. Still all in all it was cool to see. Even Pres seemed to enjoy being out there in the grass.
So after the ride back to the car, we drove back to the base and hopped on the bikes again to head out to the flightline. We grabbed Stacey along the way. It was later in the day and we had missed most of the demos but we were still able to take a look at some static displays and of course the Thunderbirds!! Pres was asleep the whole time until they took flight. He even slept through a B-1 'sneak attack' that was deafening. He was a little startled at first after waking up but was soon pointing and saying 'airpane!' as the fighters flew by. Daddy was quite pleased. We headed back to the house to cool off and rest up for the next day.
We headed back out to the flightline on our bikes after another delish breakfast of bagels. This time we saw the rest of the flying demos like the WWII fly by's, the A-10, and another helping of the B-1. We also got Pres on board a C-17 and a C-130. There were also some blow up jump palaces that we let Pres bounce around in. He loved them but was not the best at staying on his feet. To be honest, I think he enjoyed falling more than standing in those things. Anyway, it was another day of lots of sun and fun and we were exhausted by the time we biked home. BTW, riding your bikes to the show is HIGHLY recommended. No crazy traffic and you can bike right up to the entrance! No long walks or nasty shuttle rides. Needless to say we were ready for a shower and some AC. No problem putting Pres to bed that weekend!!
Some other highlights of the week include a trip to Hill City for Stacey's birthday complete with a scary yet sad mock shoot-out in the streets (loud guns, misfiring weapons, and crazy old-timers do not mix) and a BBQ at the Ingle's with tasty steaks and nice weather for outdoor play with chalk! Make note, apparently it's more fun to throw chalk through a fence then writing with it on driveways.
Be sure to check out the pics. Hope everyone is having as nice of weather as us, although it looks like ours is now leaving. Looking forward to hearing from or seeing you all soon.
Take care!
