Something old and something new

Short and sweet as no time to write a whole lot. We still owe some So. Carolina narrative but for now just know it was great to see Traci & Tucker, Dorios and meet Paige, fun Halsted wedding, really missing Ron & Thanne, Sean Sarah & twins...took for granted living so close to them for such a long time.

Anyway the weekend was full. Started a bowling league Friday night with some people from Regan's work. Neither are us are going varsity anytime soon but it is a good time. Loads of kids there so Pres also enjoyed it. Saturday we watched some football, lots of shopping and Bear Country!! Bear Country closes Oct 1 so we have to get in our visits while we can. Sunday was out to breakfast than on to do some hiking. We went to Custer State Park where there are numerous hiking trails. We chose to go to Harney Peak as we have heard the hike and the view are well worth it. It is a moderately strenuous 6+ miles round trip from Sylvan Lake to the Lookout. Really fun and we are a bit sore today. The pictures show the scene better than I can describe. Preston did fantastic and Regan was great to carry him the whole time!

Good weekend...missing friends and family but will get a chance to catch up come the holidays. For now we are counting down to Preston's 1 year birthday! It has really flown by and we still feel as blessed as ever to have such a cool kiddo.

Wy-Ohhhhhh-ming

So, its that time of year. It seems that, just like that, summer has packed it's things and headed out of town and fall is unpacking the boxes and getting situated. We were just talking last week of near 100 deg days so you wouldn't think packing clothes for a weekend out of town would be difficult. But if you check out the pictures you'll see that we are not dressed for 100 deg. Rain and cool temps have hit the plains. Seems like the summer just started but I would guess that it is very near being over for us.
This weekend, Karley's parents went on vacation and headed to Yellowstone. Since that is somewhat close to us (at least a lot closer than Los Angeles) we thought it would be a good opportunity for a visit. So we planned a rendezvous in Sheridan, WY which is about halfway between us and Yellowstone. We figured it would not be the most adventure packed weekend as Sheridan is not the most exciting place to visit but at least we could visit with the Parents and they can see little Preston.
Bob and Carol got to Sheridan first and checked it out so when we got there, they gave us the tour.....which lasted 10 min. So, to find some adventure, we headed north to Montana to check out the Custer battlefield. The weather was not the best but it was good enough to walk around the grounds and learn about Custer's last stand. It was neat to learn that there was more to it than Custer just getting massacred by some Native Americans. There was some of his unit that survived at a different location and of course you got to see the Native American perspective. All in all, we pretty much decided that when Custer and his troops came over the bluff and saw the encampment (of thousands and thousands of Native Americans) he and his few hundred men should have turned around and radioed for back-up.
The visit with the Parents was too short and it seemed like in no time, we were back on the road and heading back to good 'ol Rapid city. It was nice to see them but we would have liked for it to have been longer. Preston was amazing for the whole weekend, taking the change to his schedule and hours of driving in stride. The drive back was a piece of cake as he slept almost the entire way! So here we are, back 'home' and ready to face the short week. A couple of days of work then we are off again to South Carolina! Hopefully the storms keep their distance and don't interfere with our trip!

Labor Day Excitement?

So here we are at another weekend, and this one is supposed to be a busy one. Regan and Pres were awarded a 4 day weekend but Karl had to suffer with only a 3 dayer. You would think that we had some big plans but that was not the case. I'm guessing it was the trip to SC coming up that muffled this holiday weekend but none the less this week will be a tamer blog. We spent most of the weekend at the house or in the city. We had aspired to head into the hills on Monday for some hiking but the weather seems to be thinking it's fall already and wasn't very conducive for outdoor adventures. It was however the start of College football so part of the weekend spent in front of the tube (if you can say that these days!) enjoying the games. Karl treated Regan to the extended sports package for cable and amazingly enough we were able to cheer on the Cougs when they played in Seattle! Not the most enjoyable game to witness but the fact that we could see it was good enough. We are excited for the NFL to kickoff next weekend and Karl is again participating in 3 different Fantasy Football leagues! Who's the football fan in this house? We hopped on the bikes a couple times one of which we were joined by some local friends and their daughter who is one of Pres' classmates from daycare. That day ended up being a little crazy as it was near 100 deg and very windy. Kinda like riding your bike with a giant hairdryer blowing! Throw in the typical trip to the mall and of course a stop at Bear Country and that pretty much wraps up the weekend! A Labor Day weekend for the ages.
