There are many animal preserves in the area, today we visited Reptile Gardens. We were pretty impressed considering not all the exhibits were open yet. Once the warmer weather gets here they move some of the creatures to outdoor enclosures and there are more interpretive presentations.
Today we caught the "Snake show" and took in Prairie Dog Town, the indoor exhibits, the Bald Eagle enclosure and the tortoise exhibit. Preston's favorite was the prairie dogs, probably because those little guys run all over. The indoor exhibits featured loads of snakes, lizards, bugs, crocs & gators, turtles and various birds. The bald eagle is a rescue, although neat to see you can't help but feel bad for the guy since he can't fly anymore (the exhibit indicated that he had been shot in one of his wings). The tortoises were impressive, they are huge, move faster than expected, are gassy and almost seem animatronic. One came right over and seemed to want to chat with me...unfortunate as I don't speak tortoise.
Although some of the exhibits were quite creepy it was a good time had by all. Regan might recover from all the spiders before we go to bed tonight. Hadn't realized he was creeped out until his phone vibrated and he jumped out of his skin.
A sampling of the pics are posted in gallery if you are interested.
Until next weekend....
xoxo
